ANDES
DESIGNED FOR MBM BILIARDI. EXHIBITED AT SALONE INTERNAZIONALE DIL MOBILE DI MILANO 2019 ANDES is a billiard table design proposal that takes as reference the pre-Columbian cultural imagery and the physical qualities of the Latin American territory. It is a piece that refer to the ever-present rugged geography of the South American continent, as well as the archaic techniques of woodwork that can be found in native crafts and pottery. The condition of precariousness associated to utilitarian and symbolic objects of the pre-Columbian cultures (vessels, fountains, jars, etc.) is reinterpreted with advanced design, geometry and material means, resulting in a contemporary object that enhances and ennobles the primitive appel of such pieces. The design considers a playing field covered with a smooth billiard cloth and a external body made out of high-quality wood with a geometrically-faceted pattern resembling the rusticity of woodworking techniques.ANDES combines the neatness and precision required for the maximum performance of the billiard table, with the rusticity and roughness of an "archaic" artisan piece, transforming the billiard table into a timeless design object.
