SELECTED FOR “PERFORMATIVE EXPLORATIONS IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN" / URBAN FLUX, CHINA
The objective is to explore and define the rules that generate the shape of the pavilion. These rules are geometry. Geometry is space, it is structure, it is logical and it is organization. The process goes from geometry to structure and environmental conditions, from geometry to space, light, and movement, from geometry to architecture. This project is an exploration of the potential of a parametric model based on clear geometric logic. By this geometry, a single surface is transformed causing multiple conditions, multiple sequences: Floor-wall, roof, landscape-patio-dome, urban-domestic-public. The corrugated plastic sheet chosen is not only material but also geometry. The parametric surface is capable of transforming and evolving according to the spatial, environmental and structural requirements by controlling three main loops that define the edges of our surface. It seeks light and structure evolving with these sequences, and establish the interaction between the physical model and the parametric digital model in order to achieve greater wealth and differentiation for the pavilion.
