Architectural Design: BASE studio
Felipe Sepúlveda + Bárbara Barreda
A MAZE arises from the definition of organizational rules between regular components, in this case parallelepipeds. An algorithm was developed that allows to apply this logic of relations between elements on any surface in order to respond to multiple uses, programs and spatial situations. The system gives the possibility to adjust the section, length and quantity of components on a defined surface so that the system can be easily adjusted to different materialities as well as to various social, economic and technological contexts. In the case of A MAZE, the order from the client “Grupo MASS” was to generate 6 mazes for different spaces in shopping centers in Santiago. Considering the temporality of these structures and that the assembly should be carried out within one day, as a design strategy the BRIK system was proposed based on cardboard components, light elements, easy to manufacture, transport and attach. These components are added so as to form various spatial situations and geometric variety in each maze.
