FLOCKING TEJAS _ PAVILION
HONOURABLE MENTION "YOUNG ARCHITECTS IN LATIN AMERICA", VENICE ARCHITECTURE BIENNAL, 2018 FINALIST, YAP_CONSTRUCTO 8, MoMA
The emerging nature and adaptability of the “Flocking Texas” system allows generating dynamic and changing relationships, determining different instances, variations and application possibilities. From the YAP Constructo 8 contest, a self-supporting Pavilion-type structure located in an urban park is proposed. This application seeks to generate an instance that invites people in the city to explore the idea of a sculptural space, without a specific program, but rather open to contemplate the strangeness generated by these fragile elements suspended in a sky of light cables; evidencing the ability of the system to constitute geometrically complex bodies that blur the idea of building as long as there is no distinction between walls and roof. “Flocking Texas” not only seeks to understand the conditions of clay tile as an economic, accessible, low-tech and sustainable system; but also explore scenarios that invite people to encounter extraordinary spaces. Spaces that essentially wake up and feed curiosity.
