FLOCKING TEJAS _ PAVILION
HONOURABLE MENTION "YOUNG ARCHITECTS IN LATIN AMERICA", VENICE ARCHITECTURE BIENNAL FINALIST, YAP_CONSTRUCTO 8, MoMA
The emerging nature and adaptability of the system allows to generate dynamic and changing relationships between components, determining different instances, variations and application possibilities. For the YAP Constructo 8 competition, a self-supporting Pavilion for an urban park is proposed. This application creates an instance that invites people in the city to explore the idea of a sculptural space, without a specific program, but rather open to contemplate the spatial strangeness generated by these fragile elements suspended in a light cables ceiling; evidencing the ability of the system to constitute geometrically complex bodies that blur the idea of a building since there is no distinction between walls and roof. “Flocking Tejas” not only seeks to understand the conditions of clay tile as an economic, accessible, low-tech and sustainable material system; but also to explore scenarios that invite people to meet under extraordinary spaces. Spaces that essentially wake up and feed curiosity.
